Art: Banksy "is an overpayed Art "F@&" who cuts stencils out"

Forget THIS GUY...Banksy's the real deal. It's kinda hilarious how everyone has always something to say when it comes to street artists. Frankly, I'm kinda over it. Let's try not to bank on everyone elses work. Go do your own shit!!! In any case, here's a little something we found in the net.

Art: Keith Haring (was a Sneakerhead too!)

Keith Haring has always been a hero of ours here at Manifest Destitute. Not only was his work incredibly appealing but he also had a social purpose for it. Recently a new documentary on his work debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, and although I couldn't find a way to embed the trailer for it, you can find it here. Christina Clausen's Documentary tittled "The Universe of Keith Haring" offers a personal glimpse into Haring's life, from growing up in a small, conservative Pennsylvania town to the Downtown New York scene of the '80s and the success that turned him into an icon of the 20th Century.

Here's another Documentary called "Drawing the Line" from 1989. Enjoy!

Art/Architecture: Graffitecture!!!

I do gotta say I've got the best friends in the world...Kate who I hadn't seen for a while surprised me with this fantastic book. If you know me personally, you probably know I'm involved in Architecture. For other's, I'm that dude that draws Panda's all over coasters at bars. So what's that Graffitecture book about anyway? Well let me tell you... Over 40 Chicago graffiti artists were given photographs of architectural spaces from around the city and were asked to draw directly on the photos. So What? Well... Graffitecture is an exploration of what happens when graffiti, a wholly original Art form rooted in urban culture, clashes and commingles with the built environment. Most importantly, I hope this book helps those in the Architecture field realize that Graffiti should not be considered an ILLICIT Art Form, but rather an ADDITION to our Urban Fabric. Yeah I said it!!!

Art: Celebrating the Legacy of DONDI WHITE!!!

Converse and Bodega will present: "Archeology Rewards". A collection of art work by the late "Style Master General" Dondi White, in celebration of his life and the influence on Converse (PRODUCT) RED. The Showing will happen this Saturday December 15th from 7:30 to 10:30pm. Arrive there early, there will be a lot of people and you don't want to miss this.

Born in the East New York section of Brooklyn, where Graffiti became a serious part of Dondi's life in the early 70's. For the next 20 odd years, Dondi became recognized as the stylistic standard, influencing a generation of graffiti writers. His most famous work was Children of the Grave part 1, 2 and 3, three whole cars in the New York subway in the years 1978-1980. After complications, Dondi died of AIDS on October 2nd, 1998. In April 2003, the Dondi White Foundation was created to raise funds to support educational programs on HIV/AIDS prevention and services aimed to improve the lives of those affected by AIDS.

Art/Fashion: Futura 2000

Just in: Concepts Cambridge is now carrying Futura Laboratories! For those who are not familiar with Futura's work, he is one of the most influential graffiti artists. A contemporary of Keith Harring and Basquiat, Futura is one of the few artists from that era that is still with us. In the music scene he has been a sought-after artist and has collaborated with The Clash, while more recently he's provided all the imagery to James Lavelle's UNKLE projects. Today, Futura travels the world spreading his work from gallery to gallery and has been an active figure in Streetwear and Sneaker culture. For those of you hypebeasts, this might just sound silly, but for everyone else, i just wanted to express my admiration for this man's work...no homo.
