Music: Veronica's Veil causes fan death!!!

We haven't really said much about Fan Death even though we included them our top 13 of 2008. In fact, it really surprises me since their new single has been in full rotation in our ipods for a good 4 months. Like that wasn't enough, we just received the vinyl of "Veronica's Veil" on the mail thanks to Erol Alkan's online shop of limited edition goodies. But let's talk about this sexy duo that goes by Fan Death. Not only are these two girls like amazingly good looking (not that we care...yes we do) but the single has actually got all the elements that make this a "Nu" Disco anthem. God...I'm really getting sick of caling it nu disco but till someone cleverly renames the genre, we might have to stick to it.

Back to the Band: Fan Death take their name from an old South Korean urban legend where electric fans, if left running overnight in a closed room, can cause death by suffocation. Kinda morbid and a little hot. Also: Girls and religious iconography are so hot i'd might even consider watching the Da Vinci Code. I mean...I love Greek Mythology and all, but Christian mysticism is way hotter!!! And their single named after the Catholic relic (which, according to super Christians, belonged to Veronica from Jerusalem who bumped into Jesus on the way to the Calvary and wiped the sweat from his face, leaving his image printed on her veil) is quite hot too. Hot Music + Hot Girls = a good time (trust me on this one). Music wise, this one is Manifest Destitute Guaranteed!

Sometimes we like to talk about literature sitting in the living room drinking Bordeaux but this isn't one of those times...and while we could elaborate on Joyce's and Virgil's Ulysses, we rather share with you Franz Ferdinand's. And please don't get us started about WWI and the Hapsburg family because we rather talk about Erol Alkan and the spectacular remix for the Scottish Band's new single. So let's put it this way...If James Joyce was Inspired by Virgil and Virgil talks about the Greeks...then this remix is a representation of what exactly? I know... it's that Cosmic Disco Sound we've been listening to here at Manifest Destititute and Dancing at Akult for a hot minute. So if you haven't yet, come on up and jump on the funk train people...Franz Ferdinand just officially invited you. (and believe me, they've been trying for years!!!)

Music/Film: Part of the Weekend Never Dies (The Review)

It's been probably way too long since we last wrote on the blog and frankly it was a necessary break. I'm not gonna bore you with sentimentalism/spirituality/reality checks (although just checks would be nice $$$) or anything remotely personal and introspective (cause I'm the worst at it). But after all, Manifest Destitute is a world for those who dream and those who Dance...and those who live each weekend like it was their last.

If you haven't seen Soulwax's "Part of the Weekend never dies" then you probably don't love Music all that much. If you haven't the faintest idea of What Soulwax or what 2 Many DJ's do/are, this nice little package will without a doubt indoctrinate you into the Gospel that is Nite Versions while making you believe Jesus is actually two brothers from Belgium whose goal is to save the world from bad music. Yeah ok...we really liked the documentary but trust me, we are pretty sure you will too.
