Video: Holy Ghost - Hold My Breath

It seems like an eternity ago that we first wrote about Holy Ghost! It was the end 2007 and "Hold On" marked their first release on DFA [post-Automato]. That Track was perhaps their calling, not only an immersion into Disco, but most importantly into the Analog Synths that define their sound and their unique brand of Pop. In 2008 & 2009 they became the Remixers Du Jour, completing works for established artists like Moby & Cut Copy. Last Year it was their Break as Artists. Their trial at becoming a band and not just a production duo came pretty quickly. By the time they declared their Love for New Order in their "I will come back" Video, it was clear what was to come. Now in 2011, they have toured America once, and now going on their own as headliners. This Video for "Hold my Breath" is perhaps a good recollection of their story; The sort of tale that HBO's "How to make it in America" tries to convey to the masses and somehow misses the point. The Story of Holy Ghost! is not a coincidence...and for better or for worse, New York City stills seems to be that magical place. This Video is simply, more than just a testimony, it is in fact a reality.

Music: Holy Ghost! Comes Back!

Photobucket
Thinking back...Our first proper music review/rant on this blog came a couple years ago when these duo of New Yorkers released "Hold On" on DFA. Around the same time they played at the AKult Disco here in Boston's own Goodlife Bar. It was a packed house and quite a memorable one for me because it was the same day of the Dondi White Sneaker Release at Bodega. But to be honest the best memory of that night was the morning after, waking up in Chinatown to a massive New England Snow Storm. But let's talk music, and in this case Video. Like it wasn't enough that we love Holy Ghost! in this blog, the little bastards go right ahead all Tarantino-Style (frame by frame) and re-make New Order's Classic "Confusion" Video. Shit...even Arthur Baker makes a freaking Cameo. What Can I say, the kids know what they are doing and they are doing it right. Pleasantly enough too was the Cameo by Nancy Whang. Good Video...Good song...Good Day. Go Check the whole story on this song here!

Music: Holy Ghosts Batman!!! (a year later)

When we first started this blog a little more than a year ago, we knew instantly that they were gonna be up to big things. Now that 2008 is gone The Brooklyn duo left the year with some outstanding remixes on their shoulders. Holy Ghost! will without a doubt be the act on DFA to look out for in 2009 (....along with Runaway of course). Check out some of what they brought us in 2008 (you'll be impressed!!!):

Music: Moby is guetting his street cred back.

Ok....this is gonna be a quick post cause i go to run downtown to watch the Celtics Parade!!! NBA Champions baby!!! Anyhow....Let's review Moby's career (in 3 seconds)

Moby in the 90's = RAVE Maestro!!!
Moby in the late 90's/early 00's = $ELL OUT! (but good for him and people who bought their CD at starbucks)
MOBY in '08 = DANCE MUSIC AFICIONADO with street Cred mothafuckas!!!

His new album was not appreciated by the music snobs over there, but here at Manifest Destitute Moby is always welcomed. His new single "I love to move in Here" is the Kind of Old Skool Hip-House revival track that makes you smile not because it's great but because it reminds you of the good ol' days when people where having fun dancing to the cheesiest of music (in bright ass apparel and people still said the word "DeFest" to describe something "ill"). Well...Moby is probably one of the greatest Connoisseurs of Dance Music today and his unique skill to spot good remixers is better now than ever. It probably has to do with the fact he's back to DJing in Brooklyn and hanging out with girls 20 years younger...(cheeky bastard!!!) Music: Drop the Lime's Alice is good (and current), Crookers remix of "I love to move in Here" is great booty shaking glory but Holy Ghosts remix of the same song just Hit it off the ball park for me. Disco greatness at its best. See pitchfork, Moby can do no wrong. o_O

Music: Holy Ghosts Batman!!!

Not to be confused with the Christian one (although yes...they are that good), Holy Ghost is the new "It" artist on the DFA roster. DFA is on fire lately! Whatever way they are going, I'm totally down with it. Holy Ghost surprises us with a dance-rock gem with one dirty, dirty bassline and keyboards to lick your fingers like it was KFC. Serious contender for 12" record and "hipster anthem" of the year. Expect for NYC to take back the championship belt from Paris in 2008.
