It's been a while since we've actually written something here, but in many ways this really is a special occasion to break the ice. Our Friends John Barera and Soren Jahan started a project about a year ago called B-Tracks. Today their Debut 12" titled "Specialize" does just that, as it specializes in Bringing forward their love for House & Techno music. It's no surprise that a certain man by the name of Kenny Dixon Jr. was the first person to be given a test press of this hotly tipped & very limited 12". The EP will receive it's release party in Brooklyn tonight at Public Assembly. To round out the Party, B-Tracks enlisted Boston's own Brenden Wesley as well as Marcos Cabral of Runaway & Ron Morelli of L.I.E.S for what is gonna be more of a celebration than just a Dance Party. Creatures of Habit, is the Disco/House brainchild of our good friend DJ/Producer Brenden Wesley. Comprised of a wild collection of guest players, musical virtuosos and analogue gear whores alike, Creatures of Habit debut “Lustre” on Scottish Cosmic label, Solardisco. Lustre's hypnotic, low-slung bass-line, flirtatious instrumentation and studio wizardry takes us into a cosmic trip starting in Boston, and descending in Brooklyn with Remixes by Runaway and Nick Chacona. I have to say that I'm personally really proud of this release. We've had the opportunity to preview these tracks as Demos some time ago. We are ecstatic to say....it's your turn now.

This FREE event will feature a headlining set from hotly tipped duo, Brooklyn's own Runaway, who have a remix appearing on the release, amongst other top local acts including Wesley. Joining these two artists at Good Life will be some of the finest local djs/producers devoted to underground dance music. Opening duties will fall to local busy boy John Barera, who holds down a day job in the record business when he's not busy dropping sets all over Boston, Berlin, Barcelona, Brooklyn & beyond. Also on supporting duties me, DJ Coatti Mondi. In room two will be local club kids and electronic music aficionados C&G, who hold down multiple residencies across the city and just opened for techno legend Juan Atkins in February.
This new record marks quite an auspicious debut for Creatures of Habit, and this party promises to be one to remember. Better clear your Saturday schedule, because you might want to sleep in a bit!....And like this wasn't enough...The Red Bull Music Academy will be on Location to Record the Set. This month, we join the Together Festival with an Exclusive Live performance by San Serac (environ/institubes). San Serac is one of those rare local artists that have gained more recognition abroad than in their home turf. Having been on Output Recordings (UK), San Serac joined a label that included Legendary Belgian duo Yello as well as ground breaking acts like the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem. Output, was the vision of Trevor Jackson and an ode to Factory Records; a label that focused 100% on the music and the design of their releases. Today, San Serac is making history again as he recently released a 12" entitled "music never ends" on Morgan Geist's Environ label. Combining the Stylings of artist like Bowie and Bryan Ferry to the Sounds of Chicago House, San Serac has created a sound that uniquely represents him. This month, they will host Bob Diesel, a fixture in the Local House Scene for over 20 years now. As part of Boston's House Music Coalition, Bob without a doubt will dig into that old school sound we've been craving back here in Boston. This Sunday, Boston welcomes early rave scene pioneer Mark E. Quark (SF Wicked crew). You don't want to miss this one because it'll be his first appearance in the Hub since 2004! "In 1988, at the tender age of 18, Mark E. Quark began his DJ career by playing substitution slots at KCR FM, one of only 2 underground radio stations in San Diego. Later that year he and and his friend,Gregg Pope were given their own 'Acid House' show KSDT FM college radio in San Diego, CA. By 1989, he became a resident dj in San Diego's premier nightclub, SOMA, playing acid house, industrial, disco, and other varieties of electronic dance music. During his three year residency at SOMA, he was responsible for increasing the clientele from about 200-300 people to about 800-1000 people on a typical Saturday night. By 1990 he had already begun to phase out the industrial sound and began to play strictly acid house, Belgian beat, and techno, which contributed to the steady crowd for the next few years. In 1991, while maintaining his residency at SOMA, he collaborated with roommate/soundman, Brian Weinberg and Playskool's Paul Smith to turn a 6,000 ft. warehouse space in to an underground club venue. The party was called 'Ware's The House' and set the foundation for what was to become the SD rave scene. In 1992, he was offered a residency in a popular downtown club called Club Geraldine's where he maintained a steady and increasing audience for 2 years. After being offered a residency at Playskool, another popular downtown club, he stopped working at SOMA and Club Geraldine's. He remained a resident DJ at Playskool for over 4 years, building up one of San Diego's biggest house nightclubs. Mark was eventually maintaining his own night called G-Force at an underground club, The Flame."
"Mark contributed to the club's increasing popularity for over 4 years and gained an extremely devout following. Although he was successful in San Diego, he wanted to be closer to where house music was more widely embraced. He also wanted to challenge himself in a city filled with other talented djs that were integral in inspiring his passion and love for the genre. As a result, Mark moved to San Francisco in 1996. In San Francisco, he quickly gained respect and played at legendary parties such as The Gathering, Basics, By the People's Out Of Sight parties, Stompy Dig In, and Sunset. In addition, Mark began a weekly Sunday night called Bionic Peanut Butter at The Top along with djs, Solar and IZ (Chicago). Mark began traveling throughout the United States and Canada as well as Europe, receiving resounding credit in France, where he played at the legendary Rex Club and Batofar. He has played alongside DJs such as Doc Martin, Derrick L. Carter, Lil Louie Vega, Kenny Hawkes, Gemini, Onionz, Dan Ghenacia, Hipp-E, Justin Harris, Phil Weeks, Hector Morales Mark Farina, the wicked crew, Halo and even Richard James (Aphex Twin), Moby nd more recently Maurice Fulton , Holy Ghost!, Kim Ann Foxman (Hercules & Love Affair), DJ Spun (Rong), DJ Cole Medina, Scotty Coats (Rong) and In Flagranti." He is also 1/4 of San Diego/LA based DJ collective and promoters Dos Dres who have been responsible for bringing acts such as Brennan Green, Tim Sweeney, Maurice Fulton, Radio Slave, DJ Spun, & In Flagranti to the west coast.

Get this...Tomorrow it's a new day for all you Disco fans here in Boston. But let me be clear - John Travolta is not invited! so don't expect white suits or the freaking Beegees on the guest list. This Tuesday, Feb 24th Brenden Wesley & DJ Supreme One (You may know him as Serge) bring us a NEW DISCO Night @ Middlesex Lounge! Yep. FINALLY!!! I have been wanting see a quality disco night and Well, the stars have apparently aligned in the appropriate manner. Disco-nnection will be the first in a series of monthly parties with Rocking/rare cuts mixed properly as only two true disco heads know how. Expect only true Underground Disco with a side dish of Funk and Boogie.
Come on Boston, I know there are some Real Disco/House Heads that know how important this night is for the scene. It's not all about Electro, Hip-Hop and minimal techno is it? We get deeper than that don't we? Let's make New York proud...

While I'm still waiting for a Solar Disco Shirt size XL, I do recommend you to head over to the enormous room this Wednesday and catch Brenden Wesley & John Barera do what they do best...Spin some records (just in case you were wondering). This month, DJJEFF joins them to provide you with a set of mostly early House and some Underground Disco. Now on their second month, Brenden's new residency at the enormous room picks up some of the elements of the classic Akult nights but with a concentration on that lovely period between 1981 and 1988. I know it's early in the year, but expect AKULT to make it's return to Boston's Best Dance floors soon...rumor has it Mr. Wesley has been busy on the production side of things. Speaking of which....Brenden's "New wave Hookers" project is out on Vinyl now as part of the HeadtunesVolume 1 compilation. Be sure to get a copy here before they are all gone.
